Copper Heatsink on the Rocks

It's not a heatpipe per se, since there is no liqud in the pipe. Basically he has a copper pipe connected to the CPU, with the other end inside the chiller. Heat will always try to move towards a cooler place, thus the heat is picked up by the pipe and transfered to the cooler, where it is...

Plain old resistors an alternative to fan controllers?

It will work just fine, you just need to figure out what ohm rating to use for the speed you'd like to achieve. You could also throw a SPDT toggle switch into the mix and switch from full to reduced speed at will.

Just a heads up for those who want to get a Lian-Li Case, check and double check first.

Mini? Your original post says Mid-Tower and that is what I was going by. Whatever the case (no pun intended) $100 is not a lot of money for a quality case, and smaller size doesn't usually mean less expensive. Lian Li cases are very nice quality and for that you will pay a bit more. Thanks...

Since when? In this day and age, $100 gets you a decent, well built (usually) case. Don't act like you bought a Cadillac when all you really got was a Malibu. Save yourself some headaches and re-drill the holes yourself and forget about it.

Worth an upgrade?

New Details on R600 emerging - ReScheduled to MAY Launch

First of all, the formula you used (W=EI) only works for a purely resistive load, however the higher wattage fan will obviously draw more current at the same voltage. But, wattage doesn't have a thing to do with RPM's, and most certainly not noise. A different fan blade, static pressure, etc...

R600 pics? It's a monster.

Look at x80064's link, on the back side of the card is the opening for the blower. That is the OEM version of the card and will only be available in prebuilt systems. The retail version is 240 watts, not 270.
