laptop cpu questions

i'm currently shopping for a used laptop on ebay and i'm not sure what cpu is fastest. I'll mostly use the laptop for web browsing and playing non cpu intensive games online (chess, cards, etc...) But i want the system to be as fast and responsive as possible. I'll also be running the Fritz8...

everything looks fine in firefox, but i did notice that it displays pages much smaller than IE6. firefox leaves a lot of blank space in the browser window. it barely uses more than half the width of the full screen. i'm using bbc news home page to compare, which is probably designed for...

The color depth is set to 32-bit. i just changed it to 16-bit which is the only other option and it doesn't look any better.

what nforce2 chipset in particular? he's got a crappy old sound card also. is there one that comes with good integrated sound? which boards seem to be getting the most praise for reliability and lack of problems?

We need a motherboard, cpu, and memory and need to keep it under $300. It'll be running XP and primarily used for 3D gaming. Whats the general consesus on best chipset/motherboard and cpu for the value gaming market.

will a PIII 1.2 Tualatin work with an Abit BE6?

my brother wants to upgrade his cpu, but i don't know if its feasible. He has a PIII 700@933 Slot 1. So his board and memory run at 133 fine. Is there any slocket that would allow him to run the Tually on his BX based slot 1 board?

thanx, i swear i searched this forum lastnite and didn't find it. that got it up to 70fps, but i think it should still get 80+. what do you think?

my friends system seems to be running very slow. i made a custom rtcw benchmark to test the system and compare it to mine. he's over here lanning and we are using the exact same config (resolution, colorbits, texturebits, and everything) I get 92-93fps on the demo and he only gets 55-56fps...

I've tired most every key it seems and it just says "invalid system disk" ..... the machine posts and checks the RAM, but i can't get it to boot from a floppy, cd-rom, or hard drive.
