Upgrading to IPS display

I would highly recommend a 1440p display, especially for photography.

Xeon L5639 Overclocking on X58

What are your guys thoughts. 1.2V Vcore, 1.34 QPI, 1.86PLL volts. Safe voltages? I haven't been in the X58 OC seen for a while.

Iris pro benchmarks are in, and........they're VERY GOOD

40 watts is far and away too high for any ultrabook.

Haswell-E Timing

So, I'm running a big of an old processor -- it's fine, but frankly I'm stepping up my video and photo editing. I also do gaming so AMD is out of the question. I've done some googling but haven't found much conclusive. I'm looking to upgrade to a hexacore, but obviously haven't made a system...

Lightest bright, decent mid-zoom on any system?

Theoretically a F/4 FF zoom would give you a 'better' image since it gets shallower DoF and better high-ISO to compensate for the slower aperture. Tamron 24-70VC and a D800 would be about the same weight as any APS-C deal.

Is "degradation" real or a myth?

Fair enough, but I'm curious what you run your specific cpu at, not what you feel the safe limit. My car 'can' go 120mph 'safely', and further than that 'unsafely', but what do I actually drive it at? As someone who doesn't work with circuits I'd be curious to hear what an expert would actually...

Why does everyone overlook Sony?

First claim seems preposterous. No real pros use anything but Hassy and P1. Second is false. The Sony 300/2.8 is a bit less than the Canon/Nikon versions.

Why does everyone overlook Sony?

Biggest issue for me is the Sony-hotshoe and inability to flip up the mirror for even single shots on their SLTs. Ideally I would like to use it as a mirrorless with MF lenses anyway. It's especially lame for astro/landscape where you know it's eating IQ without any benefits.

Is IntEl's 22nm and ivy bridge a colossal failure?

Canon has trouble implementing IS with large lens elements?

Sounding like Sony/Pentax shooters, rationalizing IS as a useful feature just because you don't have to pay a premium for it.

Younger brother wants a Canon T2i for Christmas, how can we tell if he's 'ready'?

20 in college. Clearly he would be fine with a 700$ camera. Consider buying used through the Canon Loyalty Program to save more.
