I believe there is a limitation that the board can only read single sided SDRAM at least on onme or more of the slots.
So perhaps if your 256MB module is double sided (very likely) the board will only read one side (128MB).
I purchased the 390U2W from Microstandard and received it as advertised (ie retail box). Great price for a decent controller. The only negative thing I have to say is that I did not recieve and email confirmation or communication after ordering and I had to call them to get a tracking number...
I remember back in the Celeron 300A days there was a theory that retail cpu's got were selected from better parts of the silicon wafer or something like that. Whether retail cpu's are any better, I have no idea and tend to doubt it. It's more where they are manufactured and what stepping. I have...
I believe that error has to do with a driver using an area of memory it's not supposed to, is already used or something like that. I just went through a problem with that error and the PC wouldn't even boot into safe mode. In Win2k, I'm using ACPI so it assins the IRQ's. The problem for me was...
Perhaps I am wrong but if you are using DMA, CPU overhead on an IDE disk is quite low.
Sure you won't get 100MB throughput on an ATA-100 drive but the real world throughput
(maybe 40MB or so) is still pretty impressive for the price. You can buy 160MB SCSI
drives and controllers but you probably...
I admit I do not know much about Whistler and was basing my opinion on past experiences.
I hope Whistler is much more stable in it's early release and that updated driver or
app support won't be required. But sometimes I wonder if they don't just design in planned
obsolesence:)
I'm no expert but I recently made the decision to add SCSI support to my system. For the most part speedwise ATA-100 and Ultra2 are probably about the same. Good SCSI drives usually have a faster seek time and more cache but the fast ATA-100 drives are pretty fast and have good throughput. CPU...
Why even think about Whistler? When it does come out it will initially be buggy and probably have limited support. Many applications or devices either won't initally support it or require upgrades, drivers etc. A year after it's release, after a service pack or two and developers and...
