Where should I take my car?

You can go this route and save money for sure. Another option that I did once is to find a local joint and clutch shop. I found one that mostly did large truck u-joints, etc, but they happily repacked and booted both half shafts for a really good price.Mine weren't worn enough to be noisy, but...

I did this not too long ago (they were offering the free year for military) and it took quite a while. Much longer than I expected. The card, stickers, etc in the mail took even longer. But it did show up.

Power windows quit working

My guess would be a bad ground on the drivers window switch box. On the cars I've worked on, all the power windows switches are routed through through the group of switches (I'm calling it the switch box) in the driver's door. I don't believe the single switches were individually grounded. So...

Any reason NOT to replace power steering fluid?

I've always done it. Once I get all I can with my syringe, I usually bump the key for a second or two to turn the pump over and I'll get a little more to suck out.
