Kepler is on security fixes only support.
Even when it was supported in the mainline driver, it was apparent that Nvidia didn't test new games on it, Doom Eternal is notorious for being broken on Kepler GPUs.
DaPunisher provided some examples of games being broken on Maxwell earlier in this...
I was unfair to accuse DF of ignoring it completely, but have they done any lengthy test regarding high vs low VRAM?
I mean, they can zoom in on miniscule differences in all other comparisons, but I can't remember them investigating the cases of lower VRAM cards getting worse looking textures or...
Part of the problem is that very few of the big sites do extensive enough tests to show that, for them it's just a one minute test sequence for each card and publish the performance bars.
It's one of those times I wonder why the heck eg Digital foundry, which is a site that actually does do...
PCgameshardware.de did a recent test with the GTX Titan, 780 Ti and the RX 6400 for comparison. They note that many modern games will not load either due to a too old driver version, or specifically needing unsupported feature levels...
IMO, the increased focus on multiplatform and longer console cycles since the 360 era have really skewed the playing field. During the last 15 years, even a "bad" GPU hasn't been a horrible choice.
The Radeon 9000 series was considered great when it launched, but five years later it was...
Try updating the BIOS, one of the older updates is saying "3. Fixed Nvidia GTX 680 hang when runing with UEFI driver.". It was a somewhat occuring problem back when the UEFI cards were released and some kind of BIOS incompatibility caused issues for both the traditional BIOS and the new UEFI...
It sucks for the people affected if the game is unplayable on RDNA1 due to no proper fallback when lacking Mesh Shaders, but I was always hesitant regarding its long-term performance due to lack of full DX12U support.
I don't expect studios to spend resources on adding fallbacks if perhaps only...
Today I think some kind of Legacy support just for severe security holes should be provided for a long time
For gaming, there's the question of future games with "simple" graphics that might be unplayable due to driver bugs that never will get fixed.
Starfield makes for an interesting comparison regarding upscaling and raytracing I think. IMO, there's a huge backlash across plenty of forums regarding its lack of DLSS, whereas the complaints about it missing raytracing is very minor in comparison.
What mikeymikec said, but your motherboard also has Q-Flash Plus, which is supposed to be able to flash a new BIOS even if the motherboard gets bricked by an update
It sucks for RDNA2 owners if they're unable to activate raytracing because it's universally disabled for AMD even though it's only RDNA3 that's impacted
Programmers have said it's easy to add support for Vulkan too if the game already supports DX12, so people complaining about this game lacking DLSS could create noise about that too. Vulkan even has the benefit of being supported on more platforms than DX12.
But easy to add is not the same...
Why does it matter that it's an old ass system when it still is good enough to run many modern games?
The artificial limitation to require AVX or SSE4.2 just gives people a false impression that PC gaming has progressed further than it has. And it's ironic considering how many have yelled at...
I don't get why people even think it's a no-brainer to add DLSS unless it's sponsored by Nvidia. Unless money is involved, I don't believe any business is eager to support something which they cannot fully control and fix by themselves.
As for raytracing, the last-gen consoles and pre-DX12...
