Dear Anandtech Community,
ever since I got a receiver for a sound solution in my setup, I am having problems with my screen refresh rate. My GPU is an r9 290. If I try to set up multiple displays, I can set the screen refresh rate properly but my receiver is disabled in sound. If I duplicate...
I‘m actually surprised by AMDs GPU numbers tbh. They consistently had the faster product for most tasks and where often sold out because of it (mining). Afaik there are few competent GPU programmers out there and <redacted> proprietary CUDA is still a thing, maybe that‘s got something to do with...
Games are limited by a main thread and L3 performance. That's the reason a core complex oc'd ryzen 5 and 7 gives a frame experience similar to the 7700K. But high core complex oc's require a ton of research and tweaking so it's not for everyone. The fact that SMT gives lag spikes in gaming on...
Those lanes coming from the PCH is exactly the problem. Attaching your m.2 via PCH is a waste of money because the PCH bottlenecks the m.2 performance. Latency is most of the problem. Save your money and get an 850 evo instead.
True, 8 PCI-e lanes won't bottleneck your GPU performance now for...
I very much hope for a new socket because it means I could still hope for 20 pci-e lanes.
16 just isn't enough. I don't get why not more people are annoyed by this. I think a 350$ CPU without enough PCI-e lanes to run a GPU with 16 and an m.2 is a serious issue. Even AMD's 110$ ryzen 3 can do...
Not at all. Heavily optimized compute tasks can sometimes get even more out of the chip's ALUs.
The correct analogy is a car advertised as incredibly fast but the engine blowing out at 200 kmh. If you refer to gaming loads then it is like noone noticing because the car is driven by your grandma...
That review doesn't say much more then: "It's a mess"
They talk about various driver revisions and thermal issues. So I would think we still have to wait and see.
I do think however, that the really bad L3 latency will be a big problem for many apps, especially games. Combined with all the...
My main source for that is an acquantince of mine who has repeatedly bought large batches of mobos (100+) to supply his customers (small enterprises) with pcs. Since falues are on his bill, he also talked to his business vendor a lot. He said falue rates as a whole have fluctuations because cap...
The Asus boards had the highest falue rates of x99 boards. Biostar has had low falue rates over the past years and good designs, I'd look at that or a gigabyte board. They made some good value x99 boards.
But like it was said already, we need benchmarks and then probably another quater before...
I really don't care how version numbers compare. What I do care about is that they have cut the amount of L3 cache per core in half (you can keep the 0.125 mb).
