Unsure what to do following hard drive diagnostics

I cloned the disk onto a spare drive and swapped them around. The freezing now seems to have stoppe, but the reports of controller errors on IDE3 continue. They don't seem to be having any impact on performance though. Steve S.

Problems running diagnostics on Samsung drives

That's the logical conclusion. I guess what I'm trying to understand is whether that is a likely cause of the freezing given that nothing is actually connected to the port under suspicion. Steve S.

Bizarre IE7 behaviour

I suspect that something fundamental has been damaged. I went through the steps outlined above several times before posting here. Every time I selected IE as the default it failed to "take". Even more bizarrely, IE no longer appears as an available program in the "Set your default programs"...
