Remote Desktop vs VNC vs ?

Google Remote Desktop is very convenient. Penetrates NAT firewalls without forwarding ports and everything.

Starting + stopping HD's often = early failure?

Well this is an eSATA drive that I'm using w/ a eSATA Expresscard. The power save deactivates the external drive as well. My issue isn't power but more extending the life of the drive.

My laptop has power-save modes activated, where it'll shutdown the HD after a couple minutes of inactivity. Little did I know, this also applies to external eSATA drives as well. I'd assume that the 2.5" laptop drives are designed for this type of usage, but how about a desktop drives? It...

That's actually the stock timings from IBM/Lenovo. It's a Thinkpad T43.

Running CAS5 @ CAS4?

So I bought 1 GB of OCZ Value Series DDR2-PC5300 for my laptop. I failed to realize when ordering that the system I have takes CAS4, and this was CAS5. It's rated at 5-5-5-15, and my system runs it at 4-4-4-12. I ran it anyways just to check, and ran Memtest86+ for two full test cycles...

VIA K8T800 or AMD 8131 for a dual Opteron setup?

Its most likely gonna be a Windows 2000 Server w/ SQL Server 2000. Budget is around 1500-2000 total. Master2-FAR puts me around 1500 and Master F puts me around 1700. I'll see what Tyan has to offer. Thanks!

This is my first time building a database server, and need your opinion. :) I'm picking between the MSI K8D Master-F and the MSI K8T Master2-FAR. Any preferences on chipset? The Master2-FAR looks like it has much more updated features (USB2.0, SATA, etc), so I'm assuming its a newer board...

Poll: Would you Switch to Mac OS X if you could run it on PC hardware?

Yeah, just to clear things up, Darwin does run on a x86 architecture, and you can download it freely. However, the GUI (named Aqua), is not available, and never will be. Apple has their ways of making their money, and yes, it's all hardware. So you figure that when you buy a DVD+/-R drive...

Next speed level for DVD writers?

Anyone know the rotational speed of a DVD at the outer edges of the disc (assuming its CLV)? Since CDs are physically maxed at 52x, it shouldn't be too hard to figure out the max for DVDs.

Memtest86 gives 2 errors @ the same location in memory...

I figured it was a physical hardware problem since I was running everything at the default specs, and the error was easily repeatable and occuring at the same memory location everytime...

Thanks for the quick reply! One more question. :) Is getting Corsair memory rated for the 2-2-2-5 basically luck of the draw? The picture on NewEgg's listing says 2-2-2-6, the listing says 2-3-2-6, and I got 2-3-2-6. What/who do I believe? :frown:
