Romex switch legs always contain a white unless you buy some kind of really rare NM without a white in it. Constant power in the light JB goes down to the switch on the white, back up on the black. Can you produce a code against that? I've never seen one.

The confusing part is that, if there are only 2 conductors in the box like OP stated, one of them should be white because it would be what's called a 'switch leg', which is 99.999% of the time done with a 14/2 romex in residential. So the original electrician used some kind of really REALLY...

New furnace with heat pump added opinions please

That seems insanely expensive to me. Is the $3k blower included in the $8k install price at least? Or is the $5k heat pump in there? A furnace swap that only needs minor duct adaptation takes 2-5 hours labor. Also, i would note that the chb105 is ENORMOUS for 1064 sq ft. I have a 95k btu...

Quick advice on rim joist insulation

@Greenman what you're seeing is the non load-bearing side of one of my dormers. The house is very tall because we decided to spend the extra $3k to use attic trusses, and I gained another 900 sq ft for the house. The insulation is that way because I claimed just about every cubic foot of space...

OP, if your heart is set on this, save yourself 750% of the labor and buy a Froth Pak. It will get in every single little hole/crack (you won't the other way, no matter how diligent you are), it's fairly inexpensive for what it is, and it's also a vapor barrier (so there's no 'in between' space...

House wiring/breaker box limits question

OP 60 amp breaker for a stove is ENOURMOUS. They're usually on a 2p40, and even then I've never seen one draw over 28A with a clampon (maybe in self cleaning mode and burners on too?) As long as you don't bake a turkey, dry your clothes, run your AC and microwave popcorn all at the same time...

Motion Light woes-

Is it mounted on the wall or i the soffit? If the wall, you could pull the box out, drill through into the building, and stuff a BX through the hole. Strap it down the inside wall (ugly, but OK in a garage), or hit the back of another JB, then pipe down to a switch at normal height.
