Fanless underclocked penryn for absolute quiet?

Forget liquid cooling. Is it possible to create a setup where I can run the Penryn at say p4 2.8 ghz speeds without using a fan? Or perhaps this would be possible with the Nehalem... obviously that's speculation. I would love to have a stable system that could be completely quiet. We're at the...

Hmm... I reckon the PSU could have a fan, but is there any way around that? I'm really honestly just wondering if you can run a CPU without a fan yet and still have acceptable speeds.

New R700 Optimum Build

I was considering a mac pro until...

I found out that upgrading from 2 GBs to 8 GBs of "800MHz DDR2 fully buffered ECC memory" adds $1500! To TOP that off... 32 GB adds $9100!!!!!!!!!!!!! Am I crazy... or is this highway robbery!?

e8400 Motherboard Lineup

I have searched for this, but have been unsuccessful. Is there one article that reviews all the motherboards out there for the new 45 nm processors? I haven't found one source that reviews the different chipsets available from the different manufacturers. Anyone know of any?

Quad Core Energy Use

I know that Quad core will use more energy when under heavy load, but I'm wondering when the system is under normal use (using Firefox, for instance), will there be a way to idle the extra two cores in order to save on energy usage? Or is that impossible given the design? Also, does anyone...

R700 and 8400

I realize this is speculation, but do you guys think the current 8400 will be able to keep pace with the R700 from ATI (or Nvidia's next offering)? I want this to be my last PC until it dies.
