  1. EVGA SuperNOVA 550 GA, 80 Plus Gold 550W, Fully Modular,10 Year Warranty,Compact 150mm Size, Power Supply 220-GA-0550-X1 $64.99 @ Newegg

Looks like that deal is gone. Had it in my cart yesterday, free shipping, affiliate code takes 10% off (so $5). Was originally $50. The B-stock inventory and prices change daily apparently.
  2. EVGA SuperNOVA 550 GA, 80 Plus Gold 550W, Fully Modular,10 Year Warranty,Compact 150mm Size, Power Supply 220-GA-0550-X1 $64.99 @ Newegg

10-year warranty probably pushes this passed the B-stock 550 G3 for $45 after affiliate code.
  3. ARESGAME 80Plus Bronze 500W/650W/750W ATX PSUs @ Newegg on sale, see inside for details.

If they honor the warranty then it's a great deal. Some others on Amazon (like Segotep) in the same category. Always a crapshoot with newer companies.
  4. Google Chromecast

I ordered from Amazon the day after it released and got the same status updates. Back ordered all the way to October/November when I ordered less than 24 hours after it was announced? Wtf Amazon.
  5. Google Chromecast

Wow, I just ordered from Amazon an hour ago when they were still taking back-orders for $35. Apparently they hit their back-order limit.
  6. Google Chromecast

Thanks for verifying all of this. I was wondering about the USB cable. Hard to believe a HDTV from 2006 is considered "ancient" these days (HDMI v1.2). From wiki: "HDMI 1.4 was released on May 28, 2009, and the first HDMI 1.4 products were available in the second half of 2009." If your TV is...
  7. Google Chromecast

Chrome just needs an extension that plays local video files and you could just cast the tab to your TV. Using your poweful desktop to decode 1080p 60fps files would be ideal although something tells me there are restrictions with the Chromecast device itself. If it pulls directly from the...
  8. Anyone else having DailyTech blocked because of malware?

Chrome gave me the "malware detected" page so I decided not to chance it.
  9. What is the most trusted brand for 7850, 7870, 7950

I've never had a problem with any third-party vendor over 12+ years. Diamond, Sapphire, HIS, Asus, Gigabyte, EVGA, MSI, Powercolor. I'll consider myself lucky. Warranty-wise I think EVGA has the best warranties but they only make nvidia cards. For AMD I think XFX has the best warranty, last time...
  10. Opinion on pre built desktop please

A 7750 for gaming? It's a trap! If you're looking at a $1000 gaming rig, a 660Ti should be at the bottom of your choices or if you prefer AMD, a 7870. There are other places to skimp (cheap case, 64GB SSD + 500GB). Unless you know you will need hyper-threading, the i7 is overkill for the price...
  11. Upgrade advice for gaming PC.

Yeah, that's an awesome build. You'll slap BF3 around with that.
  12. Buying a Gaming PC, First time in years

Check out the recent mid-range gaming build here on AT: http://www.anandtech.com/show/6229/midrange-system-buyers-guide/2 If I was building, I wouldn't stray far from that since I agree with most of it. Probably go with a full ATX Z77 board and a ~500W modular power supply. Everything else is...
  13. Is Hardware Optimized for Video Editing Worth Getting it For Basic Video Editing?

By building a gaming machine you're already fulfilling your need for basic video editing. I had similar needs before building my main rig (see sig), mostly gaming but occasional video editing (4 hour stretches at times). Overclocking helps with straight-up encoding but don't forget you can use...
  14. Buying a laptop budget $600 ~ $800

Everything was going great until I read "BF3". That just upped the cost to the 800+ range. WoW can play on any modern laptop, dedicated GPU or integrated, doesn't matter. The Y580 is easily the best bang for the buck, 1080p gaming laptop right now if you can swing it. I recently purchased a...
  15. best Ultrabook for moderate gaming?

Right now the best bang for the buck, regularly priced gaming laptop is the Lenovo Y580 as fishsauce mentions. ~$950 for a gaming powerhouse with a 1080p screen. In Ultrabook land, the best I've seen is the anemic 640m LE (basically a 630) which won't even play BF3 on low settings at 1366x768...
