AMD RYZEN Builders Thread

Yes, something weird going on with MSI's mortar. Now running with 1.1 bios which allows 3000MHz memory (1.2 and 1.3 worked with 3200MHz :( ) but at least I can OC the processor fine. Still if I try to do all OC on bios, memory speed will usually be defaulted after reboot to 2133MHz...but CPU OC...

AMD RYZEN Builders Thread

Same result when using Linux. Seems that it was MSI's BIOS problem: A.20 bios and the newest A.30 caused this but when rolling back to A.10 the full speed came available on OS. Very strange, never seen this kind of problem, way to go MSI. :( On the other hand memory support is very good, 3200MHz...

Hello, Finally got my 1700 but right at the start faced very strange problem. CPU-Z shows that core speed is only ~1550MHz. I have tried without overclocking, without any power saving options, no Cool&Quiet or any other extra CPU features. Bios shows that memory is running 3200MHz and also...

Of course I would like to have that. Point is that 3200MHz is already way more than the current DDR4 standard frequencies suggest. I have understood that all the chips are anyway based on trimmed 2133/2400 sticks. I'm just afraid that if the very high-end 3600MHz+ sticks works only...

I don't think it's anywhre realistic. Remember that the official supported i7700K memory speed is still only 2400MHz. OC market is so small that there are sadly no point of putting big effort for satisfying the super enthusiasts' 0.01%.

Easiest question here so far. :) Definitely Ryzen and the more cores the better. If you're fine with some overclocking the best bang for the buck is R7 1700.

Per thread based licensing is definitely from the harsh side of the pool. You could also have fixed, socket, core, user, named user, memory, connections etc. based license metrics. Thread and core licensing favor Intel's slightly faster IPC but even in those cases we need to see first how well...
