Yep. It's just a waste of time, really. By the time you want to upgrade your CPU you will likely need a whole new motherboard (for new socket) and RAM to go with it.

Like someone else here said, it's the minimum frame-rates that are important not the average. If I'm playing Oblivion and there are seventeen enemies on screen and I'm playing at 1920x1200 and HDR enabled, then I sure as hell don't want 5 FPS.

What is the Best 24" LCD Monitor for less than $600?

The Gateway 24" is $550 and everywhere I've seen has given it ace reviews. I'm guessing it's not one of the crummy panels they stick in the $300-400 24" models, and it also has DVI *and* HDMI on it as well as height and swivel adjustments. Oh, and it looks really nice. :) (IMO)

Some oblivion framerates with a 3870.

I have a X2 4400+, Vista, 3GB DDR1 RAM, 7900 GTO, and with OOO 1.32 RC5, and a handful of other gameplay and quest related mods installed. I'm getting pretty shitty framerates if I am attacked by a couple of goblins at dusk with my horse and Ruined-Tail behind me (like slide-show speed).

Asrock Dual SATA2 freezes/hangs when loading Windows

not necessarily. if i change the FSB at *all* on my ECS 848P the Silicon Image SATA RAID chip fails to see the SATA1 drive thats on it... so it isn't always the cable... although it's obviously worth checking, as well as trying the other SATA plugs on the motherboard!

Recommedation to replace comp lost in fire

I'd have to say that the ASRock 939Dual motherboard is the board with the most options since it will support the AM2 AMD changed 939-pin CPUs when they come out, and does SATA2, AGP *and* PCI Express. So if you can pick up an AGP card on the cheap, that'll do you until you can pony up for...
