That seems to be mostly affecting FE and a few other reference PCB cards. I'm not worried about mine, plus the guys at EVGA are east to deal with if there is a problem.
I have run SLI and Crossfire. Neither one was a picnic. I decided a few years ago the fastest single card EVGA card (besides Kingpin) was my plan and so far so good.
Multiple cards is not the best solution for a lot of enthusiasts. If SLI scaled well and worked well, I'm sure more would be going SLI 2080ti.
Multiple cards must scale well for your application.

I was happy with my 1080ti FTW3. I was ecstatic with my 1080ti FTW3 Hybrid. Silent, cool, and fast. The 2080ti FTW3 is a placeholder until the 2080ti FTW3 Hybrid is released.
