  1. Question installing Windows 11 on 2.5" 1TB SATA SSD hooked up to WYSE 5070 thin client PC

I have Win10 installed on an external 2.5" ssd and plug it in only when needed. I used Rufus to get it installed onto the drive using Windows to Go, and the performance is good enough. I even have it booting with Secure Boot on a Dell Latitude. Only when it updates, you have to make sure to...
  2. Tablet screen artifacts?

I have this old Lenovo Tab 4 8" which has been tossed around and been put under a pillow over the last 4 years. I think I know what happened to the screen, but am looking for some comments to see for sure. These artifacts can only be seen when the display is on but on a dark color, like dark...
  3. Dell Latitude E5470 Video Issues

Do you have a spare monitor that you could hook up via HDMI? Check to see if it happens on that, if not, then it is the screen, if it still happens then either the GPU/CPU or the screen itself is the problem.
  4. Question Can certain SSD not be compatible with UEFI?

In windows, I use diskpart to check if it is in GPT, and if it isn't, then I convert to GPT while it is empty.
  5. Question Can certain SSD not be compatible with UEFI?

If the SSD wasnt in GPT, then I certainly converted it to GPT before putting it into the laptop.
  6. Question Can certain SSD not be compatible with UEFI?

Update, I installed Feren OS Linux on the SP920 in a USB enclosure with a GPT/UEFI flash drive and it boots right into Linux on my desktop. I guess that SSD had an issue with Win10 and the Lenovo laptop booting UEFI mode.
  7. Question Can certain SSD not be compatible with UEFI?

I found out what the problem was, it was the SSD. I took an Adata SU800 128GB I also had laying around, I imaged the problem drive and put it on the SU800 with pure UEFI mode and it booted right away into the Windows setup screen. So it was the Adata SP920 drive that couldn't boot with UEFI...
  8. Question Can certain SSD not be compatible with UEFI?

I used two different flash drives when I installed Windows10. SMART data on the drive looks good, and is still at 99% health, but I have no way to secure erase the SSD as Adata and many other programs don't let you Secure erase in windows.
  9. Question Can certain SSD not be compatible with UEFI?

I am selling off an old laptop, i5 3317u and have an Adata SP920 SSD laying around to put in. I made the Windows 10 USB two ways, with Media Creation Tool and with Rufus and .iso, making sure it was GPT and UEFI. I made sure UEFI only was selected in the laptop, a Lenovo U310, and it installs...
  10. Question Did Intel mess up on marketing names?

I just bought a Dell 3120 with Pentium Silver N6000 for a very small portable laptop with Windows as I didn't want Chromebook or Android tablet. Why did Intel split the Pentium in Silver (low power J and N chips) and Gold (Gxxxx desktop and U mobile chips) but they didn't do it with Celeron? I...
  11. Question WD Blue SN550 NVMe model difference?

On the sticker, it says 3.3 V and 1.8A. WD seems to hype up the low power consumption of the drive. I am using it in a desktop so I can't speak of how little power it is using.
  12. Question WD Blue SN550 NVMe model difference?

This is why I just bought a SN570, which replaces the SN550, as it has TLC, and much better performance than SN550. I ran it with CDM and was hitting the advertised speeds of 3500 MB/s read and about 3000 MB/s write, Q8T1 sequential. The SN570 is so new that I can't even seem to register the...
  13. Microsoft officially announces Windows 11

For general use (browsing, documents, media playback) of old computers that can't update to 11, install Linux if it is still in working order.
  14. Question USB flash media - performance and reliability

If money is no object go for the Sandisk Extreme Pro. I bought a couple of Mushkin Ventura Plus about 5 years ago that had great read and good sequential write speeds but lately they are acting flaky on my new motherboard, Asus H470M, unless I plug them into the ports on the motherboard. Past...
  15. Microsoft officially announces Windows 11

I just had a look at cpu specs at Intel ARK, and compared the i7 7700K to i7 8700K. The only differences I could find are that 7700K has HD630 graphics vs UHD630 (but they look the same to me, right down to HDCP2.2 and H.265 10 bit support); 7700K lacks SIPP (Intel Stable Image Platform...
