MHL Video Lag

It's not to reduce lag, it interpolates between frames to try and make the video smoother. But it needs to buffer a couple of frames to do so, and it takes a bit of time to do the calculations, so it increases input lag; so turning it off improves input lag noticably. It's called "Motion...

SG05 builds? Thinking about 4790k and GTX970

I have an SG05 with an i7 3770 and a Geforce 680 stuffed in it. It's a tight fit, but everything works fine. The video card noise is more noticable than with a bigger case - but I didn't find it annoying; game noise easily covered it. I don't have tools to do proper testing, unfortunately; so...

Intel's latest "NUC" - HD Graphics - Seriously?

It's the same architecture as the ivy bridge graphics - same cores, same basic concept. Just less of it (4 rather than 6 (HD 2500)/16 (HD 4000)). Nobody is trying to argue that it is as powerful as the full-fat Ivy Bridge HD 4000.

Iris Graphics. Execution doesn't meet the vision.

Surface Pro 2 is incredible

One of the on-screen keyboard options is the pen. But they won't show up if you have a keyboard plugged in. Pen input works surprisingly well though, at least for words in the dictionary. This was written with the pen on my Surface Pro 2.

Need a laptop for CAD (willing to buy used)

A mobile i5 processor is NOT a quad-core. Most of the mobile i7s aren't either - anything with qm(pre-haswell) or MQ/HQ (haswell) are - but they use more power than the dual-cores, and so tend to be really big laptops. Not to mention hitting your battery life. Next, RAM. Is that 16GB two sticks...

Advice on a Laptop for Heavy Architectural Rending.

If you're wanting to carry it around, 15.6" is a lot more portable than 17". The screen will be 1080p either way, so you don't really gain any extra real estate from the bigger screen, it's just heavier, and harder to fit into a backpack. I have a Clevo P150EM and I love it. 15", good options...

Recommend an ITX gaming case?

I've got a Geforce GTX 680 in a SG-05 - it's a tight fit, but it works. And the 450W variant powers it just fine (with an Ivy Bridge i7, no overclocking). The main problem with the SG-05 is length - it'll fit reference 7850/7870 cards, but a lot of the custom coolers will be too long. It won't...

Case for quiet Mini-iTX build with i5-3570K

Review my build please (save me $$?)

I have a Celeron G530 in my HTPC, running ubuntu + XBMC. It can play bluray remuxes perfectly smoothly, both using hardware-assisted video decoding and pure software decoding. They are amazingly capable chips, especially given the price.

To address these: A corrupted OS installation can and will take everything with it. It's also a lot rarer than you would think, unless you do something really stupid. Having a hardware raid controller is no protection against someone accidentally going "rm -rf /" (or the equivalent gui command)...

I'd go with either an intel ITX board (intel NIC is better than the realtek/broadcom ones, 4 SATA ports) or an Asus P8H77-I (six sata ports, Realtek NIC). Throw in a Celeron G5XX and some RAM and you're good to go. I'm using a P8H77-I with four WD greens in raid 5 (using mdadm) and a PCIe intel...

New semi-gaming laptop for Christmas...

Clevo is the ODM. Eurocom, Sager, Horize, metabox, etc buy the chassis, assemble the notebook and provide support. But they are all (essentially) the same laptop. Alien ware used to do the same thing, before they got bought by dell. Now they come from the same place as all the other dells.
