antec Quiet Mid-Tower Case - Black w/350 W at Best Buy: $39.99 AR

Well, I guess that depends on if you need yet another cheapo 20 pin PSU. I don't and SilentPCReview.com prefered the improved version at Amazon so I went with that. Don't get me wrong - Antec 20 pin smartpower supplies aren't awful but they are nothing special either.

Venice E6 Chips shipping now

I got a PSU today I ordered a week ago and the status showed "in warehouse" when it arrived. The shipment actually beat the shipment notification email to my door. Bottom line: they're pretty good at getting the stuff out but suck at status updates.

HOT Maxtor 250GB w/16mb HD $99.99 w/free ship

No doubt the "bitchin" is from people like me. I just returned a 250 gig Maxtor that died in less than 4 months. Yeah, they replaced with a refurb unit but all that data.... GONE. IMO their quality has gone downhill along with their warrantee.

LCD decision

The vp912b appears to be an 8 bit panel but there is a good deal of conflicting information. Note that the vp912b supports 16.7 million colors according to the Viewsonic website (pdf product comparison). Typically, 6 bit panels claim 16.2 million colors. Of course, if anyone has any proof...

ATI9600 is equal to which Nvidia card?

No games involved. Card is for a HTPC PVR and video playback only. I was ging to go 9600 because it is fanless (read quiet) but Nvidia has drivers in development that look tempting. So, which nvidia card is the 9600 non-pro counterpart? I would like to have a look before I decide. Thanks.

Need a replacement Northbridge HSF, Suggestions?

I always replace northbridge fans with zalman heatsinks. It will cool just fine if you have good airflow throught the case. Just make sure it fits. They usually do but sometimes caps or some other components are very close and crowd the northbridge.

P4 3.2 good to overclock for HTPC?

One reason: ffdshow. FFDSHOW is a DirectShow decoding filter for decompressing DivX, XviD, WMV, MPEG-1 and MPEG-2 movies. Image postprocessing in ffdshow can enhance the playback quality of dvds to nearly HD levels. If you have a HD capable set it is wonderful. If you don't, forget it...
