No Sound From Headphone Jack On CD-RW

Right... for whatever reason WMP normally pulls the audio data into the computer over the IDE controller, (the same as when you rip a CD) but it used to be that the analog cable was used to pass the analog signal to the sound card, and the CD-Rom just had a small amp connected to the headphone...

WinXP won't start up

Booting from the Windows XP will skip a few steps in the install process if-and only if-the hard disk has no patitions defined. Run Fdisk from a Windows 98 Emergency boot floppy. and choose option to view partition information. I don't think It will go straight to partitioning and formatting...

OK, I give up. Can I image my SATA RAID 0 and restore it if something hoses up?

All I can say is that with any program you may need to add drivers to the Boot image in order to accomidate the RAID. there may also be something in your BIOS that loads an extention, but is disabled to make the computer load faster. That is the case with my Asus A7V with onboard Promise ATA...

my computer wont even turn on

If you are getting absolutely nothing, I would suspect power supply as well. If the fans in the PSU and the hard drive(s) spin up, the problem is more likely elsewhere.

Hard Drive Question: Is really worth it to get 8mb cache vs 2mb?

one caveat, I had one computer that worked fine with a 2MB cache 120 GB drive but not with an 8MB cache 80GB drive, (but a BIOS flash resolved the problem.)

bad sound on new motherboard

for the record, I enabled the viewing of all playback channels, and found a "TV Tuner Input" and when I muted that the noise was gone.

I'm positive it's not the speakers, (I'm acutally using a $100 USD pair of headphones plugged into the line out jack.) Also, It seems to be much worse when there is something moving on the screen, even just the mouse pointer, and absolutely terrible when playing DVD's or games.
