Any reason to upgrade from a Q9550 yet?

I just upgraded from my old q6600@3.0 to a 5820k@4.4. Incredible jump, but also thx to 16gb vs 4gb, sdd vs hdd, 3x faster dgpu and so forth. Anyway the cpu, per se, is at least 4x faster in benchmarks.

If amd were competitive today as it used to be 15 years ago, we'd probably have cpus twice as fast on the market, than we have, at half the price.

When will the CPU as we know it "die"?

WhennIntel was the only player in the x86 arena, a single step up in performance took several years and the cost of the cpus was very high. So let's hope in competition. I also think that soon enough arm based soc will be powerful enough for most everyday task. But more and more powerful high...

What GPU should I buy ?

In Italy you can get a 290 (non x) for about 250. The x comes at about 50 more.

6700K or 5820K?

Through HWinfo, I just noticed that on my 5820k, even if I disabled speedstep, my cores jump back and forth from x12 to x44 speed. I'd want to keep them fixed at 44x all the time. I tried disabling turbo setting in the BIOS, but then the CPU runs at the original 3.3Ghz even if I specified the...

[TT] Pascal rumored to use GDDR5X..

Frozen, remember that amd makes the apus for the last gen consoles. That should be a big help in their budget.

Yes, I'm happier and happier that I didn't buy the 290x, at the end. Ok, I would have stayed within the 330, but also I would have had a two years old card. Fiji looks like an exciting technology to me. Pity it's still on the aging 28nm process.
