Reactor Critical thinks its has the specs down for the new Matrox Parhelia. OMG!!!

I love hanging around for cards that are likely to cost more than most desktop workstations :) Uhm, I mean...looking forward to it :) In all seriousness, it would be nice to have 3 competitors fighting it out for market share, and it's about time Matrox started taking 3D seriously.

Best 7200RPM HDD for 24/7 operation ... tough one

When it comes to my own machine, I've been buying WD 7200 rpm drives. No issues in the last 5 months or so with almost 24hr use. I hear great things about Maxtor too... Seagate are meant to be good as well, but run a tad hotter, so I tend not to like them for that reason (they are quiet...

DVD Drive: Which one should I buy?

The Liteon LTD163 is currently the only DVD drive I'd consider putting in my system.

Which DVD drive to get?

Slot load is simply the better design (no waiting for the tray, and no way to accidentally damage it), but the longevity of some of the Pioneer drives leaves a lot to be desired. Another vote for the Liteon LTD163 here (which, incidentally....can do DAE blisteringly fast and is a great CloneCD...

Soundless cooling

www.zalman.co.kr In particular, check out the flash animations on how to install their products to get an idea of how things work. Completely soundless might be a difficult task. That's my ultimate goal too...but the thing is it's hard to silence a spinning HD or DVD-ROM, or banish fans...

Look into the Zalman range of products (in particular, the Fan Mate 1 for a cheap and effective speed adjuster for whiny fans), as well as the SilentDrive HD enclosure and Novibes mounting bracket. I hear good things on each of those, and have personally tried and use the Zalman stuff. The...

Audigy Sound Card: How do I disable the taskbar at startup?

Hi. RegCleaner from www.jv16.org is your friend. I use it all the time. Allows you to make all sorts of startup changes to the registry, and it has a 'back up' feature, allowing you to disable any changes you've made if you reckon they've gone astray. Highly recommended :-) http://www.jv16.org

I'm told the TV tuner on this card can definitely only receive mono broadcasts, making it virtually useless for me. Mono outputs the same sound in both speakers. Stereo makes a world of difference. Should be able to tell quite easily by listening. Mono tends to have no spaciousness at all, and...
