    Verifying DMI Pool Data ..........

Just to update everyone who made suggestions: I removed everything but the memory, CPU, video card and floppy. I was able to boot up to the floppy, getting by the hangup message. I added the CD rom back in, and a different hard drive, and have been able to reinstall Win98 on the hard drive...

Trying to network 2 computers with a LinkSys hub - not working

Regarding the NetBUI question, I have seen some people recommend that you use NetBUI for file sharing within the LAN. There seem to be those who think you should not use TCP/IP for file sharing as it is more vulnerable to hacking. You can modify this by changing the bindings for each of the...

connects to Internet but not home network???

There are many possible causes for this kind of error. As previously mentioned, you need to enable networking on each of the computers. Each PC must be logged into at startup, not hitting the "ESC" button. The organization names need to match in the second line. Also, you need to ensure that...

    Verifying DMI Pool Data ..........

Hardware setup here is Epox 8KTA2L, Duron 750, 128 MB PC100 SDRAM (single stick, NEC chips), Diamond Viper V770 video, onboard sound, Linksys LNE100TX LAN card, separate Sony CD and Sony CD-RW, WD 30GB and Maxtor 20GB. I've tried as suggested: reseating memory, CPU and cards (only video and...

    Verifying DMI Pool Data ..........

My PC was running fine today, then I got a couple of error messages in IE 5.0 (not all that unusual), but after I rebooted, the PC got stuck with the message in the title of this message. I let it sit for about 5 minutes, still nothing. I've since tried to reboot several times (more than 10)...

    Newegg Product Question

I bought an InWin from Newegg, and it came with one 80mm fan in the rear, and space for an 80mm fan in the front.

    Help quick! (router troubles) (UPDATES!!!)

I had this same kind of problem a while ago. The first tech at Linksys said I needed a new router. They told me that they would email instructions on the RMA. After three days and no email, I called back and got a guy who said I only need to flash the firmware. He sent me an email with the...

    Need Router and Cable help....

I had this same problem with a Linksys router and @Home. The @Home software installation does enable the proxy, and in fact, does not allow you to "deselect" it. Every time I would startup IE, the proxy would be "rechecked". I would get the same message you saw, and no web...

Best way to link laptop w/ PC?

The direct cable connection is the simplest/cheapest way to go for simple file sharing. It's slow, but the whole thing will cost you about $10.

converting intel system to amd system?

I did this exact conversion about a month ago. I had a 450 PIII on an Abit BE-6, and was getting all kinds of problems at bootup that convinced me I needed a new MB. I bought a 750 Duron for $32, a fan, and a low-end Epox 8KTA2L (KT133E chipset, only 5 PCI slots) for $78 at newegg. I'm...

    Wireless network question

Update - I've removed the IP address for the WAP from my gateway settings, and now everything seems much more stable. Thanks for asking the question to make me think about it a little. I think it's fixed. If not, I'll add commentary later. Gracias:D

    Setting up my first network

I have this exact setup, and the wired PCs and router combination work very well. I'm trying to add a wireless PC and am having some difficulty, but I've had the Linksys setup running for about a year now and I think it's excellent.

    Wireless network question

What I've done is enter two gateways for the PC with the wireless. I've entered the LAN IP address for the router (which is what I've done for the wired PCs), as well as the IP address for the wireless access point. This seems to work for a while, then mysteriously drops out later.

    IMPORTANT tbird question

I'll confirm that the jumper is on the MB for the 100/133 selection. The printing on the board I got is a little confusing. The way the jumper selection is printed on the board seems to be the reverse of the correct way to install it. Just switch the jumper to the other two pins and reboot -...
