The Modstream does have a 24pin connector. I thought it did but Bicen mentioning the adapter made me think about it.

The Mid-Range AMD system they recommend should be good for your friend, you'll just have to adjust it slightly if you want to include Windows XP Pro and $$ for your time and still be at $1500.

I'm thinking of doing something similar, I have 2 sticks of 256MB Mushkin PC2700 in my Shuttle MN31N with an Athlon XP 2500, and want to add a 512MB stick in my third slot.
I'm wondering if running three sticks totalling 1GB in single channel mode will hurt performance significantly compared...
