It seems that the video card fan wasn't so loud after all. I removed the card and the computer was still loud. I think the CPU fan somehow has become much louder than it used to be and I thought it was the video card.
A note to others, I just found a program called Expertool (designed for a different company video card) that can regulate the fan down to 50% in 2D mode. I think I will still stick to putting it in a closet though.
Thanks for the info. Unfortunately ATI Tool doesn't do much besides artifact checking for an NVidia card. I think I will just look for a monitor extension cable and put the computer in a closet to reduce the noise.

Hi, I have WinXP and I noticed that a lot of unnecessary things load when I start my computer, and that must slow down my gameplay somewhat. Is it a good idea to play games in safe mode for this reason? I have not tried it yet.
