Fujitsu Siemens makes a premium line of motherboards that support the thermo-control of fans at the hardware level. No software or even an operating system is required. Whether your system is awake or in standby the speed of the fans adjusts to cool adequately. The motherboard can even turn the...
One of the leads on a 3-pin connector is for the RPM signal. The motherboard can only read one signal at a time so for that reason only one RPM signal lead on a 3 pin splitter is connected. You can still power two fans without reading the signal from one (or either).
The motherboard may not be...
mechBgon,
I agree that 1500 rpm would be too slow for an athlon XP. If you want to cool an XP CPU then you need to get the P14 CPU cooler. The fan that comes on the CPU cooler is tuned diferently then the fan whose specs your refering to. Those fans are designed for cases or power suppies. The...
The best material I have found is called PowerSnooze. Dumb name but it works. Stay away from anything like dynamat or other car audio stuff. Those materials don't do crap, they smell bad, and they are a pain to remove once you realize they don't work.
Beck,
Your math is correct that the manufacturer's specs say 21.8 CFM for Verax and 24 CFM for Panaflo L1A in a free air condition. But as you probably know a free air condition never occurs when a fan is actually in use. Did you notice that the Verax can deliver a maximum pressure of 40 pa...
BingBongWongFooey, Fireman,
You guys obviously don't know what spamming is. Yes, I?m affiliated with a shop that sells quiet pc parts. Not coincidently I?m also an expert on such parts and have access to a vast amount of hardware. When you voluntarily read a public message board about cooling...
What makes some of you guys so convinced that conventional fan design can't be improved upon? Checkout the technology page on the Verax website so you can how it works. The air is smoothly accelerated along the full length of the blade, which causes less turbulence. Less turbulence is...
The new fans from Verax are becoming available in the US. These are 80mm ultra low noise fans that have built-in temperature control and RPM monitoring. If you could design the perfect fan(and you were smart) this seems like what you might come up with. The design is something between an axial...
You want to check out the Zalman CNPS6000CU. You can get it at http://www.siliconacoustics.com/zalcnps6000c.html. It comes with a fan speed controller that will let you adjust the cooling level for your system. You wont have any trouble running it at the lowest, most quiet, setting on a P3.
If you want a passively cooled PSU then check out the TKPower 300 Watt Fanless at www.siliconacoustics.com. The VIA C3 processors can be cooled in total silence without a fan, although they are a little lacking in speed. Combine these these with a Seagate Barracuda IV HDD and you might not be...
I like the Coolermaster cases that don't have fan vents in the front like the ATC-101 or the ATC-210. Front vents expose you more directly to the noise from inside, plus a front mounted fan will be closer to your ears. When you are building a quiet system you don't want more then 2...
