...if I may add my two cents... I think the biggest thing that you have to keep in mind is to not over-tighten the mounting screws, as this can actually damage the GPU. The two screws should be tightened a little at a time (first one and then other) until "tight" (just not gorilla-tight)...

I have an "ATI" X800 Pro and with the stock heatsink/fan, I was idling @ ~38C and at a 526/560 OC getting upto ~76C.
I've now installed an Artic VGA Silencer Rev 3 using Arctic Silver 5 heatsink compound and my temps now are ~35C idle and ~67C with the same...
...actually, if you look at the data base on 3DMark03 for P4s 2.8-3.2GHz utilizing an X800Pro, my O'C score was actually pretty good. Out of over 50 scores ranging from 11551-4214 mine was only about tenth from the top.

it without the tips that were provided in this forum. Thanks to all who answered my earlier query!
I'm now using the latest drivers from ATi (Catalyst 4.6). I haven't benched any games yet...
