Free Visual Studio 2005 Standard Editon

I wish the book was a bit better, its a bit thin (large font). But overall its a great package. :)

AMD Opteron 165 CCBWE 0550 UPMW overclocking

The temperature sensor on the stock AMD HSF is pretty poor at regulating the speed. I think its much better to set the fan to full and let the BIOS regulate the speed of the cpu fan based apon the CPU temperature.

I dont think there are many ppl going over 2.7 on stock HSF. But i do wonder how many are going over 2.7 on other air solutions?

I'm guessing you're running on stock air cooling? I hit the core0 barrier at 2.7 (300x9) too. I can get to 2.65 on stock Vcore, past that its tricky, my CPU load temperature goes above 50C. One thing I still have to do is short circuit the temperature sensor on the stock AMD HSF so that the...

6800 GS AGP Difficulties

Hows the overall air flow in your case? Maybe try running with the case open and a large fan blowing air in?

My first Overclock!! Seems ok so far!1

Looking good, now just try to get a bit more out of it. A friend of mine has a 144 running on the A8N5X at 2.65 (295x9), stock HSF, and 430W Tt.

How long will an opteron 165/170 live at 2.6ghz?

My dual 300A server oc'd to 450 died just a few months ago, but i think the chips are still fine, just the motherboard gave out (only detects one CPU, and boots only 50% of the time). Still i got nearly 8 years out of it, the CPU fans failed about 3 times, causing the CPU temperatures to rocket...

Overclocking a 165/170 to FX-60 speeds

Same, opteron 165 @ 2.65 with 1.375V, stock cooling. I havent seen many ppl not attain 2.5, most seem to be able to do 2.6, but 2.7 is a bit harder, requires better then stock cooling? PS: Good airflow in the case is absolutely essential.

Opteron 165 o/cing

The reported mosfet temperatures were within reason when the chip wasnt under load ( 60 C ) or wasnt overclocked (80 C). So I suspect the temperature was being read, but perhaps over estimated? TC27

Opteron 165

Its possible he is using superpi in 1 directory, and running 2 instances, and one of the superpi instances is overwriting the 2nd superpis verify data. I've had that happen, and it took me a good half hour to figure out why it was failing.

Wierd Core 0 problem on my Opteron 165.

I'll try the AMD X2 driver, thanks for the suggestion. Since I started the thread, I've replaced the case (to get better airflow) and motherboard (now using DFI Ultra-D), and I was about to buy another 165 to check if its the chip? I'll post back once I'm sure the problem has gone away...

Opteron 165 o/cing

I have an 0550, it does about 2.6 on stock Vcore. Make sure you have good cooling in your rig too (had it running on an Asus A8N-E but the MOSFETs were reporting insane temperatures, 110 - 120C at load, so I switched to the DFI LP Ultra-D). On a related topic, anyone know how to short the...

Latest opteron models and ocing

I just had my 0550 UPMW Opteron 165 running at 2.65Ghz 1.375V with temps of 65 - 70C at load in a 15" Lian-Li case (2x80mm fans), and an Asus A8N-E. I got a new case for better air flow (Antec P180 actually), a DFI NF4 Ultra-D, and used AS5, now its running at 50 - 55C (stock HSF, might of...

quick question

I find my DFI NF4 also shows about 0.025Vcore less then set in BIOS. The value it shows seems to be correct since my Asus A8N-E showed about 0.025Vcore more, and the CPU was more stable at the same Vcore setting in BIOS. My Vcore doesn't change with load, again thats what i've observed with...
