Gygabyte GA-z87-OC, is it for me?

Great choice on the i7...I would say that's an essential selection for the software you want to run. I'm an engineer and run Revit and AutoCAD (not Civil 3D but others in my office do). 16GB also essential if you are going to try out rendering at all. It's a good video card without going too...

Sanity check before installing boot SSD

i5 or i7 for my needs

I really don't think you will regret the i5. By the time you find a mainstream application that needs the i7 performance (other than encoding and other incredibly intensive special applications), you will be upgrading your PC again because something better will be out and we will be getting...

How can I get a better internet connection?

I have powerline ethernet in use at my house. Plug one unit beside the router (mine is a FIOS unit) and the 2nd unit beside your PC. If the wiring in your house is good, this system just works. I get full speed from my service (50/25)...I actually get a little better than 50 at times and...

wifi security

I have to agree with Fardringle on this. If somebody is trying to crack your WPA2 and succeeds they won't be stopped by consumer grade solutions. There are a few websites that help establish strong random character passwords if you need help establishing a very strong password.

intermittent Wifi issues

That sort of speed would mean fast internet...unless the pages she's visiting are slow on that end for some reason. I really like ZAP's suggestion of trying out a long ethernet cord. If it it's much faster then there is definitely something wrong with the wifi. Does she move around a lot...

cannot connect to internet

Since this is a Gateway PC, it can be hard to get information about the motherboard but I can tell you that your description of the slots is a little confusing...I mean it's possibly to have 1 PCI slot and 3 PCI-E slots but probably not 3 PCI-E (x1) slots. Maybe take a picture and post it...

AS Rock z77 extreme4 quality decline?

I own this micro-ATX version of this board...generally ASRock are known to have a thinner PCB...but I've never had an issue with it. I guess just be careful as you install components?? I'm usually pretty careful no matter how thick the PCB is. It's not a bad board and mine was purchased...

New Motherboard questions.

I moved from an AMD system to an Intel system and it allowed it under Windows 7. I was blown away. That is NOT recommended but it worked (somehow...) I swapped motherboard, processor, but brought in the same ram, video card, HDD, and forgot to set the PC to boot from the CD so I could use...

I can tell you that while I didn't try to put 32GB into a mini-ITX motherboard, that I have bought two of them and did a lot of research before both...I have yet to see a mini-ITX that would support 32GB (most still say 8GB max in fact, but some are ready for 16GB).
