Ethernet has nothing to do with this. According to the info you gave, you are not on the same subnet. There is at least one router in between your machines. It could be that ICMP has been blocked at the router. This would block ICMP ping and tracert. XP pro has a built-in firewall, are you...

I just tasted my first KRISPY KREME

How do I remove onboard sound drivers in registry?

I just got done working on a K7s5a board and you can easily disable the onboard sound in Setup.

Does Exchange Server require Active Directory?

Exchange 2K does require AD, but if you are already playing with AD, I say go for it. We run 5.5, but I set up 2K on a test server and it integrates with AD well. I haven't had much time to play with it, but it seems pretty cool.

New Win2k Server Question...

yes, a user can log onto a Win2k server that is running AD with an NT workstation, no problem.....also, native mode only refers to the domain controllers---native mode requires that the domain controllers all be 2000, but member servers or workstations can be NT, 98, etc...a mixed mode domain...

Computer GURU's ONLY! (Backup question)

Basically, if you want a fresh install, the best thing to do is back up your data files, format the drive how you want it, do a clean OS install, re-install your apps and restore your documents and data from the backup. If you don't want to resize or reformat your partitiions, you can install...

Poll: do you use a "loofa" in the shower?

I too use the loofa---i definitely feel cleaner after using the loofa than i did with just bar soap...and i'm not hung up on whether or not it's manly...it's just more functional...

PLEA FOR HELP: Still no post after bios setting changes (A7V)

This is a long shot, but have you tried a different stick of ram? I had a similar situation and it ended up being a flaky stick of ram that was the culprit.

i have some kind of file compression problem i need help with

drvspace is an older Microsoft compression tool that was used in DOS when hard drives were small. No wonder you are having trouble. Did you actually use drvspace to compress some files? Or was it just installed? I wish I could tell you how to fix your problem, but nothing occurs to me right...
