I think Windows ignores what is in the Hosts file for Microsoft stuff, seem to remember reading that? Maybe I'm wrong...I'm not sure!

Stabilisation is incredibly useful, I find it handy to have even on my Tamron 24-70 when at the wide end of the lens. Means I can get away hand-holding in situations that would otherwise be impossible. Sure I could use a tripod but having that little bit of extra freedom is incredibly handy.

I wouldn't expect any noticeable difference. Possibly with SSDs in benchmarks but I've not noticed any perceivable difference between an SSD on SATA 2 and the same SSD on SATA 3.
I wouldn't upgrade for SATA 3, put it that way!
I've had some drives like this before, seems like they need to 'power up' again if they haven't been used for a while (as in they aren't a boot drive). I don't know if this is a hardware issue or a Windows/OS issue. As people have said though, a 5400rpm drive isn't going to be the fastest drive...
