I'm looking to buy one of the chips that comes with the better Prism Spire RGB cooler. I guess I'll wait for 3700X or 3800X to be back in stock. Also, it seems nobody reviewed 3600X or 3800X? I would have liked to see 3600X v 3800X and 3700X v 3800X, especially with PBO on. Flaky release BIOS...
I also didn't realize this. My selective "disagree" clicks were meant simply for that, to disagree, not make somebody's reputation bar red... A simple solution to somewhat alleviate this would be to disable reactions on posts older than a week so that it can't be abused in a retaliatory way...
Because the 9900K will have been out for ~9 months by the time these launch, and AMD doesn't want to set the price so high that 3 months later when Intel launches 10nm they are forced to price cut the 3800X or whatever ends up being the top chip at launch. Price cuts make your product look weak...
AMD certainly has a pretty good idea internally as to where to price things, and I can assure you that they don't wait until the last two weeks to start considering it.
The 240GE will have been on the market for about 6-7 months by the time Ryzen 3000 launches, and will still sell for a few more months beyond that, probably with a steep price cut. It is just a way for them to sell a few more chips that otherwise would have been thrown away. It will have been on...
After staring at this RR die shot some more and doing some quick measurements, I'm convinced there has to be something in there. I subtracted the area of 8 of the 11 Vega CUs and the CCX0 and came up with ~123mm2, the same size as the IOC. The additional eight PCIe lanes to get it from 16 to 24...
I seem to remember the Zen 8C ES being 2.8 base/3.2 boost and the QS being 3.3 base/3.7 boost, which matched up with the eventually released R7 1700 at a very similar ~70W power usage.
*Edit: found a link around 7 months before first gen Zen launch...
