Two WD360GD's in my Lian Li PC-65 run at ~28C during normal use. Before I replaced the ADDA intake fans with 80mm Panaflos, temps were ~34-36C. There wasn't much of an increase in CFM, so I would guess that even a little active cooling or good airflow goes a long way in keeping these drives cool.
I recently built a controversial SQL server around the WD1500ADFD--two WD360GD's in RAID1 for the OS and four WD1500ADFD's in RAID5 (3 + hot spare) for the databases. I got SO much flak for such an outlandish concept--No SCSI's? Are you smoking crack?!--that I'm surprised the project was...
Ditto. I've been building systems for a while, so imagine my embarassment last week when I RMA'd a motherboard and noticed the next day that I'd put an extra standoff in there right under the rear-panel USB ports.
Oh... here's my own experience with LightScribe, then.
1. It looks fantastic.
2. It takes almost half an hour to do a single "label."
3. LS media's kind of expensive, and you don't have too many choices when it comes to manufacturers.
I've done maybe 5 LS burns in my life... it looks...
That's a good deal... I paid a lot more for the Titaniums a while back, but these have the same performance (albeit at a higher voltage). They play nicely with the San Diego's memory controller, too. Dunno about the MIR, though. I seem to have bad luck with those things.
The drives are similar except that the DW-1655 has additional LightScribe-related hardware. They scan and burn identically, so make your decision based on the LightScribe functionality.
I'm interested, but I'm not currently in the market for a sound card. Still using an X-Mystique Gold with no complaints. But I AM using the digital out...
