Best Thinkpad before IBM sold??? (no more Lenovo for me)...

Bought an X200 second hand a few months ago. Built like a tank, that thing. My brother on the other hand has one of those C2D Lenovo laptops, and to be honest, it's like most other consumer crap out there. Stay away.

Spare parts from old laptop

So I had an old Compaq CQ60-209TU which went kaput a couple of years ago and had been just lying around. Running out of space in my house, I wanted to get rid of it. The mobo was fried, so resale value was going to be low, and I had anyway reused the HDD and the RAM in another laptop I bought...

H.265 - Are all existing IGPs and GPUs about to be rendered obsolete?

I'm not familiar with H.265, but it being a more efficient standard, won't it make older GPUs and iGPUs more relevant? My ignorance apart, I can only see a positive here.

If your only issue is the random shut downs, have you looked into why that's happening? From your post, your wife's primary concern is Word, and if you can fix your current laptop, you don't need to spend a couple hundred dollars on a new one. Only way I've ever encountered random shutdowns is...

Suggest me a good laptop for java programming

It is within your range. I wouldn't trust Dell in India if my life depended on it. I've seen so many Dell laptops fall apart within a year of purchase. Out of the six Dell Studio laptops my friends bought when they entered university in 2009, not one has managed to get by without a failed...

acer c7 chromebook for $199 y/n

$199 and 600 is a big range, you should be a bit more specific. C7 will probably not be great with battery life unless Acer releases a 6 cell. However, an upgraded version of the C7 has already been announced, with a 6 cell and better specs at $299...
