    Asus P8P67 Deluxe RAID 1

Thanks Diogenes. I've done a lot of builds before but am totally new to RAID, so there's a whole new set of mysteries for me to explore. What do you think would be the ideal way to configure this? I would think that since all the devices support SATA III, I could use the 4 SATA III ports; but...

    Asus P8P67 Deluxe RAID 1

Hi all, I'm putting together my new system. I have 2 Western Digital Caviar Black drives (SATA III), 1 Corsair M4 256G solid state drive, and a SATA III based Blu-Ray burner. The mobo has 2 SATA III connectors from the Intel chipset, 2 SATA III connectors from the Marvell chipset, and 4...

Can you SLI 2 different nVidia cards?

I'm about to replace my 8800GTX with a 260 core 216. I don't currently have another sytsem to pop the 8800GTX into so it will sit idle, but I was wondering - can you SLI 2 different boards like this? My gut feeling is no, that they'd need to be identical.

Swapping out a motherboard under XP

I'm going from a Asus P5K to an Asus P6T board. XP is running fine for me, but I've had it installed for quite some time, it might be a good chance to restart and eliminate a lot of the cruft I've accumulated over the years.

Swapping out a motherboard under XP

If I choose to do a reinstall, do I have to flush and start from scratch, or can I boot up with the XP CD and do a "repair" install?

Swapping out a motherboard under XP

I recently purchased a new video board, and unfortunately found out it will not fit in my system (my Asus P5K motherobard has caps in the way of the end of the slot, and the SATA connectors are right in line with the video board - My 8800GTX was short enough, but my 260 is not). Anyway, I'll...

Upgrading nVidia cards - driver question

I'm upgrading from my 8800 GTX to a 260 Core 216. I'm running XP, and have the most recent released 180 drivers (not the 180.84 pre-release). Can I simply power down, swap cards, and power up? Or should I uninstall the drivers, power down/swap, power up, and reinstall the drivers? Thanks.

    ASUS P5K, Can I use a PCI-Ex16 2.0 video card?

I was doing a bit of reading - I wonder if the 2.0 cards come close to using the bandwidth that the 1.0 spec provides?

    ASUS P5K, Can I use a PCI-Ex16 2.0 video card?

I've got an ASUS P5K Deluxe. The manual says PCI-Ex16, so I am reasonably sure this motherboard does not support PCI-Ex16 2.0, but I'm not sure of the differences between the first rev and 2.0. I seriously doubt I can use a 2.0 video board in a non 2.0 mobo, but I thought I'd ask. Thanks.

    Anand's 9800 GX2 Review - 9800 GX2 IS KING?

Do the 9800 series cards *require* PCI Express 2.0? I have a relatively new build (about 6 months?) using a P5K motherboard, which is the prior version of PCIe (is that 1.0 or 1.1... not sure). I'm not intending on upgrading, I'm quite happy with my 8800GTX at the moment - it's just a matter...

    [Retired] The LCD Thread

So, I got my Planar PX2611W yesterday. I bought it from CDW becuase of their very liberal return/exchange policy. No dead pixels, thankfully. I'm running this off of an 8800GTX, and it looks absolutely stunning. The one thing I have a tough time getting used to is that LCD's can be VERY...

    [Retired] The LCD Thread

CDW's ship date for my Planar has slipped from 3/5 to 3/13... :-( If it weren't for their no hassle return policy, I might look somewhere else - though I guess if they are out of stock, then there must be a big run on these things. Any clues?

Migrating old code: C/C++ to CLR managed code, to JAVA, to more secure libs, better build options; semi-automated tools?

Well, I know we have a very large project in C++, and we use Visual Studio 6. We're porting it over to Visual Studio 2005 - though making no attempt to C# it. 2005 ends up telling you things like "strcpy" is unsafe, and suggests whatever replacement is safe. That's one place to start. The...

    Using PC RS232 Input

Yeah - it depends if it's a DTE (Data Terminal Equipment) or DCE (Data Communications Equipment) device. When you connected a PC (DTE) to a Modem (DCE) that was the "common" thing to do, the cable was straight through (i.e. what looked like RX to RX, etc.) The RX label was a matter of...
