DNS SERVERS

Maybe a little more detail on your config.. if you add the appropriate records to the dns you should be ok. Are authoritive for the domain? Using forwarding?

What is the best way to speed up file transfers between two computers networked?

Agreed a switch... however have you checked to see that the links are negtiated correctly? ie 10full/half/auto? (on the network card configuration) You need to make sure they are matching to maximize the link.

Is a gigabit network the answer?

Getting mighty technical for a 3 node network with a couple of DB apps. :) Definately in the app configuration. If these are MS access based applications....they are unfortunately like this. You may need to run a compair/compact on them (and do this regulary) Ive also found creating a mapped...

Switching from MSN to LAN

Cmon...he said he forgives the people on AOL..... ROFL If youve clicked setup...at the prompt to install new modem..click cancel...Then your asked if you want to set up a connection through a LAN..so you would pick yes....if the connection is made well..your on... If not your SOL.

Local Computer policy questions (2K/XP)

The creative way as described is the only way for this situation. Basically you deny read on %systemroot%\system32\GroupPolicy for any group you do not want the policy to apply to. Be careful not to lock yourself out if you have background policy refresh enabled.

How come I can't see my redhat SMB share, but can connect to it?

Or how about looking at your smb.conf file and making sure the share is browesable. You will also find in that file information regarding WINS. It is not neccessary for browsing the share. You may want to look at having your samba server becoming the master browser. The 2K box is proably winning...

Problems with WinXP Internet Sharing

What is your IP configuration? Everything needs to be 192.168.0/24 with the ICS host being 192.168.0.1. You need to make sure everything is in the same workgroup also(ie WORKGROUP). Can you ping your laptop?
