Depends on what you stream... 3Mbps isn't fast enough for Netflix HD, only SD.

earbuds with noise isolation AND noise cancellation

What you need to search for is active noise cancelling earbuds... most are just passive, as you've discovered. Amazon has several pairs, including the quite expensive and probably overpriced Bose QC 20i. Several models from AT and Sony as well.

Dog question: how do labs do in apartments?

Ordered a Onkyo HTIB. Do I need ARC?

I think you are confusing ARC with Control for HDMI. ARC allows audio from devices connected directly to the TV to send audio back through the HDMI cable to the receiver. It negates the need for a separate audio out on the TV, i.e. optical. A modern application would be if your TV is a "Smart"...

Windows 8 Touch Ultrabook Considerations / what are you using?

Exactly. I am due for a new laptop at work, and I am holding out for the Ativ Book 9 Plus. Missed the Asus Zenbook Infinity, but will check it out now. Surface 2 will hopefully fix the issues with the current Surface.

Onkyo 906 - HDMI Board Failed !

The hdmi board on my 807 failed, and Onkyo repaired it. Receiver was long since out of warranty, and it was refurbished to begin with. No cost to me. I just emailed support, explained the symptoms, and they had me bring it into a local authorized repair site.

Far be it for me to give audio advice since all I know I learned at AVS, but generally one would want the same manuf/series for the front 3 speakers. The center speaker matching the front L/R is considered important. Doesn't matter as much for the rears. You might want to consider getting Polk...

Roku 2 XS Review: C-

I disagree with most of that...I have an XS. Works fine. No streaming issues (it is wired...) Amazon Prime Video's start almost immediately, as does Netflix. Not sure what is wrong with your box.

What are the popular "budget" speakers for HT here?

Recommend me a Headphone setup

I love my Denon D5000s. They don't have the same issues the D2000s have, and I paid about as much as the D2000s were going for when I bought mine from amazon during a nice sale. Tim
