ATI 9800 Pro trouble

Pretty much same experience here. Only it happens on 4.3 too. I think the log in one is the problem with their VPU recovery. The problem is VS .NET is with their "stable" drivers.

As soon as I log in 8/10 times I would get either VPU recovery error, or Blue Screen of Death. I used Omega version of Catalyst 4.9 drivers. The VS .NET was is an "old" problem. I experienced it with Catalyst 4.7, Omega version of 4.7 and Omega version of 4.9 drivers. I installed 4.3...

Newb Linux question

Try booting with rescue CD, and editing the grub.config file. When he deleted windows partitions, the linux partitions changed "names". So for example instead of /dev/hda4, etc they become /dev/hda1, etc.

AGP Frequency and AGP Aperture Size......your thoughts...

I agree with the Text. 64-128 MB for aperture size should be fine. In some cases setting it too high might actually lead to performance loss.

Did my friend get jipped on his comp?

Thats a silly reason not to build yourself. On the money you save you can actually own a copy of an OS. Instead of rellying on a P.O.S rescue disk.

XP Pro and sharing folders

Never mind, I think disabling Simple File Sharing will fix my problem. http://www.practicallynetworke...filesharing/index.htm Good website. Has a lot of info about how to set up a home network.

What do you use to backup or copy Win XP ?

I use Drive Image 2002. Didn't have a chance to restore with a back up I did, but if it's anything like previous version it should work just fine. Used to use Drive Image 3.0, but it doesn't support NTFS partitions. So had to upgrade. :) Basically what it does it creates an image of your HD, or...

Linux Advntages

I find it easier to work on the websites with linux. Ssh, sftp, are just a command away. Plus setting up Xampp, for testing, on linux is much less troublsome then it is on Windows. :) Setting up some software can be pain in the... Thank god for yum, and apt-get. :) Althgough that varies from...

Dealing with dust?

1. It shouldn't. Just make sure everything is unplugged when you clean your PC. :) Becarefull with the fans thought. Hold them in place while blowing air in to them, so they don't spin. 2. Yeah, they are sold in pretty much all computer stores. Even Costco carries them. 3. Don't remember...

Your CPU history?

486 300 MHZ AMD k6 1.33 GHZ T-bird XP 2400+ Thoroughbred core (2 GHZ) There wa also Intel Pentium II. I believe it was 350 MHZ, had it about the same time as AMD. Man I can't believe I used 486. Things sure progressed fast.

CPU overheatting?

Recently I installed VGA Silencer rev 3. and SLK900A, with 92 mm Zalman Fan. Result MB temperatures went up by 2-3 degrees. The CPU temp are 50-52 idle, 55-57 full load. Last time I ran Prime 95 it hit 55/36. I tried reinstalling SLK 3 times, with no effect on temp. Reinstalled the Silencer 2...
