    Building a Shuttle SP35P2

Hey folks, got a week left in Iraq and tweaking a SFF build for when I get back. Here's where I'm at right now: Case (includes mobo/PSU/HSF): Shuttle XPC SP35P2 - $379 Processor: Intel C2D E8400 OEM - $250 Ram: Corsair 4GB (2x2GB) DDR2 PC2-6400 - $125 Video Card: Zotac 8800GT...

Doing a New Build - is Vista 64-bit a good option?

So, if I understand correctly, in order to use your 64-bit processor, you need a 64-bit OS, and 64-bit drivers for your hardware. After that, you can use either 64- or 32-bit software? Obviously you aren't getting full use of your 64-bits if you're using 32-bit software, but am I right on...

Doing a New Build - is Vista 64-bit a good option?

I'm gonna piggyback on this topic, if you don't mind, OP. I would really like to know the answer to this question, as well. My new system will have similar specs. From my research on the interweb, it looks like the driver situation is a lot better these days, and will continue to improve...

    Soldier looking for build advice

@myocardia I'm looking at some other SFF cases, such as the Qmicra. Looks like it can handle the quad core and big vid cards with little problems. Hopefully by the time I start building the DDR2/3 debate will be easier.

    Soldier looking for build advice

I have another question about video cards: Are stock coolers on the high end video cards enough to push overclocking? I know the last time I built a system, you had to use arctic cooling addons to get enough cooling to push the card harder. Is this still the case? or do the recent cards...

    Soldier looking for build advice

@LightningRider Sounds like quad core is the way to go. Pretty cheap, too. I'm probably going to stick it in a shuttle xpc, so cooling will be built-in. Have to see what kind of chipsets they are using, might have to go with a lanboy or something similar so I can pick my own mobo...

    Soldier looking for build advice

Thanks guys...looks like quad vs duo core is going to be a big debate for me. Going to monitor Ram prices to see if DDR3 starts coming down.

    Soldier looking for build advice

@ LightninRider: AMD has fallen quite a bit it seems since I was last up to date. Are there any cooling problems with these quadcores? 4G! Jeez. I didn't realize DDR3 was out. I think programmers are getting lazy. 4Gigs! Moon pies...what a time to be alive. What's the key...

    Soldier looking for build advice

Long time forum lurker, hardly ever post. Currently serving in Iraq with the Army. I've been in training or deployment for about two years now, so I'm way behind on current technology and where it's going to be six months from now. I want to start buying parts at the beginning of 2008, since...

DEAD DEAD DEAD Dell Home $750 Off $1499 Laptop Deal Is Back!

Thanks for the headsup. Missed out on the last one. One question - Will free shipping still apply? I can't find any small print that says anything about it. Anyone have any experience with the last deal, maybe similar experience?

9700 Pro Refurb Problems - Driver or Card?

*slaps forehead* That makes complete sense. Must have been a coincidence that they left after uninstalling the driver. So, bottom line...RMA or no? Just buy a dvi to vga converter is your recommendation? Didn't come with one, refurb from Newegg. Thanks again guys.

9700 Pro Refurb Problems - Driver or Card?

So you guys think it's a connection problem? Hadn't thought about that.

9700 Pro Refurb Problems - Driver or Card?

Just bought and installed a refurb 9700 pro from Newegg a few days ago. Couldn't be happier with it until today. When I booted up, static vertical blue lines appeared on the screen, starting with the initial mem check and all the way through into windows xp pro. Never seen this before, and...
