I paid $126 (+tax) for the card excluding $20 rebate, all the 6870 cards I looked at were in the $175 range excluding rebates. Since I was already over budget just couldn't spring for the extra $50 right now, if it doesn't perform as I hope than I can still return. It's still gonna be light...
I ordered before posting mainly because the CPU was on sale and last one in stock, so some of my decisions were made on the fly. That was one of the main reasons I was looking for feedback, but I do understand your point of view. I guess I just took the response not as it was intended.
I posted previously when I was planning on upgrading from my current computer and used some of that feedback to come up with this, for lack of a better way to put it, hoping for some confirmation that I made some good decisions.
My intent was to build something that is going to deal with...
Looking for feedback about my new build which (so far) is as follows:
Intel i5-2500K
ASRock Z68 PRO3 GEN3 Intel Z68 ATX DDR3 1066
Corsair Vengeance 8 GB ( 2 x 4 GB )DDR3 1600 MHz (PC3 12800)
Cooler Master eXtreme Power Plus Series 500W
EVGA GeForce GTX 460 SuperClocked, 1024MB GDDR5...
I'd like to spend less than $500 if possible but that is negotiable if the performance increase is large enough, I don't mind building it myself. Currently the most taxing game I play on this current build is Fallout:NV, I'm more a casual gamer so it doesn't need to be the latest greatest but...
I haven't built a computer for several years (circa 2005) and am not up on all the latest and greatest. Debating the merits of doing lots of research to hand pick parts to build one or just go with a barebones base system and recycling what I can. Looked at this as an example...
I think it is probably the PSU that is the problem, and it doesn't seem likely that the vid card overheating would cause the system to shut down completely. Need to make sure that the mobo chipset fan is running fine, if it is then that pretty much narrows it down to the PSU. I have a PSU I...
I have an old build that recently the CPU is running very hot and shutting down when doing anything processor intensive.
CPU is an AMD 64 X2 4200+: 2200 MHz - it is running at stock speed
Have cleaned and reseated the heatsink / fan for CPU and its running around 39-42 C at idle, jumps...
I agree with most of the points made about the "recall" of the books by "Big Brother". But I would like to say that there is a method whereby kindle owners could still have that content and have access to it if they followed one of the most basic rules of data safety....back it up. There's...
Newegg has a x1950GT 256MB card with a promo code for 100 bucks shipped, right now I have a 6800GS. I know it would be an improvement, but would it be a HUGE upgrade or just a decent upgrade? System is an AMD Athlon64 +3000 with a mild OC to 3.1Ghz. Budget currently allow for much in the way...
I just replaced a mobo in a system with a 3000+ venice chip in it and it runs fine, but won't overclock worth a damn. I looked around and basically found that this board was in stock and at a decent price, the next step up would have cost almost $130 bucks versus $65 bucks. I may try and mess...
