Setting up a DSL connection

If she is set up to acquire a IP address automatically and is getting 0.0.0.0 then probably there is something blocking some the DHCP packets. If it was getting no response at all it would give a 169. address. Firewall issue possibly... You can access a dsl modem via telnet from a 98 machine...

Corrupted DNS Info

Sounds like your DSL modem has a DNS setting wrong. I would look over the DSL configuration and make sure it set to default settings and the DNS ip addresses are your ISP's DNS servers.

Upgrading to 2003 Domain controller

Sorry it took so long to get back. Rapidskies, they want to take down the 2000 controllers and bring up the new 2003 controller after a replication. That way if something isn't working they can take down the 2003 DC and bring the 2000 DC's back up. What affects will updating the schema to...

Upgrading to 2003 Domain controller

I need to put a 2003 DC up on our existing internal network. The boss does NOT want me to upgrade one of the existing DC's using the upgrade applets. What they want me to do is to bring up a new 2003 DC, replicate and then disconnect the other DC's . If you can give me any warnings,tips, OMG's...

By law, how long are network admins. supposed to keep logs?

I am a network admin at a hosting/ISP/Datacenter and have never heard of any laws governing how long to keep log files.... If you deal with HIPA (sp) or financial data I am sure regulations come into play.

DNS help

A router doing BGP will do failover automatically, you can keep the VOIP network separate and still have failover triggers. . What kind of router does he have? Why do you think it is a DNS problem?

Can you get a static ip address from dhcp?

Sure, this is done all the time if your putting up a box that needs a static address. You can add an Address Reservation by the Laptops MAC address. This way the laptop's NIC will have a specific IP reserved.

I agree, in the long run you will do better, career wise, with a 4 year degree than without one. There are people who started with hands-on before the bubble burst who are doing well now. But, I wouldn't count on being lucky in the future. You cannot go wrong with a 4 year degree in IS related...

You need to put the route statements in the router like EKKC said. You could 10 net the new folks and keep your old network 192 or the other way around, or your could give them each their own DHCP scope and use that range in your routers route statement. You just need to segment the two...

No, you do not need to do NAT to have conenctivity on a network. Well if you set it manually you are not using DHCP. So based on what you have said the above is how it would act.... Either will work fine. It just your configuration with a AP is more plug and play. With a router you have to...

Wireless Router, access point problem

I would make sure NAT is not turned on the second router and make sure the second routers WAN address is the ethernet port of the first router. I am unsure why it works wired and doesn't work wireless unless the router is smart enough to recognized the wired port but not the port the wireless...

Exchange Server 2003 - Mailbox Rights

By default you cannot do what your talking about it seems. Even domain admins cannot. I was curious and tried it myself, as I am a domain admin on a default installation of Exchange 2003. I can add the mailboxes but cannot view contents. I get a permissions denial error message. I found this...
