What rig for college??

If you are living on campus I would go with a laptop. Not sure where you'll be living, but in a dorm theres not a lot of space for a desktop, the heat output will make your room hot, the noise from fans during gaming will probably annoy your roommate, and you will spend all your time on it...

Maybe a small SSD for Windows 7 and MS office, along with a low end llano itx setup for my HTPC would be more cost efficient than changing my gaming platform while maintaining a similar performance level. I don't know what CPU+GPU options intel offers, but I know theyll probably be overpriced.
