Have Ubuntu VM Set Up

Last time I installed Ubuntu (in a VM also, needed to test an app port) the installer is so good in autodetecting everything, that I really don't know what you would do to "learn" linux. I cut my teeth on linux by trying to set up all the hardware, and by the time i figured out how to get it all...

Replacing Vista with XP on new laptop

Pecisely. Add to the the SATA issues on most new laptops, meaning that you will have to slipstream them on to the XP cd, etc, means that you should just plump for another stick of RAM and leave vista as it is.

Possibly, can you tell me what the Adobe Reader problem was? I had to add "%1" in the CLI arguments to get a slight improvement, but as documented on the newsgroups this fix seems to "expire" after a while. My notebook is C2D 2.00Ghz, with 2GB RAM so I don't think it was the a case of a...

Bummer. I actually have Office 2007 as well, but I am using 2003 since I found 2007 to be slow and laggy doing certain things (opening excel files for one - I made a thread about this some time ago).

I've just diabled access to Windows Mail, nothing. I have also checked the file associations, and all the messages are correctly linked to Outlook. It still doesn't work though. I can't use Windows Mail since I get my mail from a company exchange server.

Im using Outlook 2003 and I have set it to all defaults in the default programs. Still doesn't open the search result mail tthough...any idea why?

One of the reasons why I love Vista is the search function - click on the orb, type and it's there. I am terrible in organising my emails, so I often have to search for one to find a bit of info. Now, when I do this in Vista, it finds the mails and displays them in the "start menu". Problem...

Very irritating thing in Vista

I find the user experience in Vista a lot better than in XP. I'm not holding my breath, if I was any less productive in Vista I wouldn't hesitate for a moment to switch back to XP. However it is faster and more stable than XP was for me, so it is staying, and I hope by the time SP1 is out this...

Thanks for the replies guys. Yes, I also used to use XP with excatly the same domain settings and I never experienced this lag. I see now that it is a known bug, well, fingers crossed that it gets fixed soon then. I can't imagine going back to XP after using Vista.

The two hotfixes are clearly marked in the list of the updates, so one can remove them this way too, without going back to the system restore. However I've been stress testing the machine for 2 days now and no problems with the patches.

Anyway, can I just ask the "official" guys to give us a heads up when the two hotfixes are available through WU? I want to know when they are available, to be able to ascertain if WU will see them as installed already or not. Thanks.
