You could. However, I heard that MS is allowing downloading an .iso now, which would allow you to create a boot disc. Installing on a freshly formatted drive is always just a little bit cleaner than installing with the installer. But yes, you can just delete windows.old.

Unless you boot from the disc, format the drive, and then install, all of your old stuff is going to be sent to C:/windows.old.

Need firmware for X25-m G1 80gb

Does updating the firmware restore it to a like-new state? I thought you had to wipe it with HDDErase to do that.

Guess I'm okay then. I wiped the drive, updated the firmware, and then did a fresh Windows 7 install, but have restarted without issues several times since then. Maybe it isn't a problem if you update the firmware before the Windows install.

It doesn't live update, but I see now reason to work in the native folders when you can just continue to work in the library.

You can install directly on a formatted drive with the upgrade version with the following workaround: http://community.winsupersite....-media-the-answer.aspx It's perfectly legal provided you have your XP or Vista cd-key still.

Post your Windows 7 Performance Score!

WEI did indeed do some weird stuff with my clock speeds. It put them down to 500/750 sometimes, but when it was under max load they seemed to stay around 790/1000 (my overclock). It still scored a 6.0. But whatever, it still performs just fine. My hard drive score went from 7.6 to 7.8 with...

You don't need to reinstall after updating firmware, but if I were you I would go ahead and update the firmware before you install Windows 7. You update the firmware from a boot disk, so you don't need an OS to do it.

Wow, I love the libraries. When I'm manipulating files in the folders that the library holds, I only work from the library, and it of course automatically makes the changes I make in the native folders. I don't ever have the native folders open though, so I could care less if they live update...
