Biostar good bad?

A vote for the Biostar M7NCG 400. Have several builds w/XP's to Sempron's. All using onboard video which has been a pleasent surprise. It limits you to PC 2700/dual channel but thats seems to work. Longest running /18 months and NO PROBLEMS to date w/ a variety of user types. Very stable board.

Best Games to put on this laptop?

A second for any of the Heroes of Might and Magic games. Especially w/random game generation.

what is the most addicting PC game you have ever played?

Heroes Of Might and Magic. All of the varieties down the road. Still play Shadow of Death... Mostly w/the random map generator. Got to throw in a little Diablo II for hack and slash. :D

WOW newegg screwed this one up

Newegg has been one of the best to deal w/on-line...for years. Fair and fast. Treat them as you want to be treated. It's not about $$$'s or reward.

Another Biostar M7NCG 400 Question

Several of these w/same specs as yours all w/Antec 300 or 350 watt PS. Win 2k SP4 and XP SP1/OS- Athlons 2k-Barton 2.5k- all have Maxtor ATA 133, 7200 rpm drives. None have problems to date(roughly 12 mos/ longest in use) but I tend to agree that it's heat or power related. What PS are you using...

Which Battery Backup do you reccomend?

LEAD... I've had real good luck w/Belkin UPS products. From the Pro Gold 650's to the Universal 800's. Have gotten my systems through some hiry storms and crumby line power. Have used a couple of APC and no probs there either.

Biostar M7NCG-400 opinions?

Presently have four of these in the water and all are doing just fine. Ranging from XP2000+ to Barton 2500+, all w/on board graphics in use. Do not believe graphics is being tested w/ major games, but to date no user complaints. Version 1.0 and 7.0 w/7.2 coming. No overclocks but a stable board...

CR-RW, DVD+R media

I've had good luck with Memorex DVD +R. I'm using the Plextor 708A. No probs as yet.:)

USB thumb drives - best?

Definately the USB 2.0 version. I'm liking the Memorex 256mb drive. Just a handy gadget, only problem is I keep misplacing it!!!. :D

Recommend a good laser printer w/ USB

Try the Brother HL-1440-15PPM-2MB standard onboard ram, use some FPM or EDO 72 pin you might have laying around for more. I have not had any probs w/this printer-USB/PARALLEL. Should be had for around your pricing.

Loud pop....then nothing...

Blew a one off a Gigabyte board once but was like launching a small rocket. So definately physical evidence present for me. Suppose could be different result depending on how much of whatever the cause. Agreed that mb is probable culprit.

Did a fresh install of win 2k +SP4 and then all available patches. Box will not power off. Get a dialog box w/safe to turn off your computer and box stays powered up. Nothing special -20 gig Maxtor, Gigabyte 32 mb vid card (Nvidia chip) ATX case of course w/Antec 300 wt PS. Any ideas... I know...
