Intel 510 Series SSD now available.

It is pricey likely due to the use of scarce 34nm NAND. But this should also come down in the near future in anticipation of lower demand. Anyway, I do feel that it is pretty much in line with 240/250GB competitor prices out there assuming that they are still using 34nm NAND.

Intel's new SSD 510 series using Marvell controller ?

This is probably true since they have already pushed forward to include SATA3 on their mobo (all should thank AMD for this since they pushed SATA3 on their 8XX series chipset), they will need something that can make use of it.

Vertex 3 when?

Vertex 2 is worst if not the same. At least they did not pull a fast one on Vertex users by silently switching fully populated channel drives with one that is half populated. I got an affected Vertex 2 80GB, but they refuse to own up on the performance lost citing that it is normal... Fastest...

Are 3D TVs Worth It?

Personal opinion, I think 3D TV is not going to get any useful at the moment. Firstly, you need the glasses to be on if you want the 3D effects to be good at the moment. Secondly, 3D TVs are very pricey, and so are the player and mediums. It may take off eventually, but I won't want to be the...

4200RPM vrs 5400RPM laptop HD

A bump in the RPM should make things a little more snappy, but do note that 5400rpm is actually still sluggish from my opinion.

If it is cheap, then it is fine. Otherwise, I rather you just stick onto your current laptop config and save the money for a new laptop in the future.

Thunderbolt - Intel releases their 10Gb/sec pipe

Can it actually hit that speed currently since it was suppose to be optical fibre, but current ones are using copper wire. That is a huge difference in terms of transfer rate. :\

That is right. AMD did release Thuban chip with 2 cores disabled, but this is not for retail sale unfortunately. :\

Yep, if you are getting one with better battery life, i3 is the way to go at the moment.

OCZ falsely advertising 25nm Vertex 2 drives?

I guess this is the dilemma when you have no close competition. So SF is delivering different FW to different manufacturers, but due to the demand for it, manufacturers will have to bite the bullet and release them since they are the fastest and NAND friendly controller makers.

One more reason to avoid SSDs, and stick with magnetic platters

For the goodness you get out of SSD, I don't think that is a deal breaker. Anyway, my SSD is generally used for my OS and applications. Don't usually store anything much on it that is very important.

They don't just lie about the capacity, but putting all the rave reviews about how fast it is on the old drive is a complete misrepresentation. The new drives that uses less NAND and thus, less channels don't even come close the the claimed speed in the reviews.

This is exactly the problem. 25nm or not, it is the way they implemented it that made it have less space and speed. The heaviest hit is probably the write speed which see a proportionate decline due to the reduce in number of channels used. At this point they still refuse to own up addressing...

WD Scorpio Black vs Hitachi Travelstar 7k500

I trust Hitachi more than WD with the drives that I purchased from both companies over the years. It is true that the Scorpio Black drives are faster though. :)
