I'm converting an old PC to a server and it seems that the GPU (HD4800) is dying. What is a good, minimum cost replacement? No gaming or other graphics intensive tasks. This PC will just running backups, hosting the security camera software (Blue Iris), and operating as a media server.
Thanks.
I'm in the process of renovating a house that will be complete in a couple months and I'm trying to narrow down my system architecture. I've been in the HTPC game a long time but it's been several years since I've been up to date on the state of the market and new tech.
My needs are the...
Thanks guys. mfenn, how do you find these Microcenter deals so easily? I was able to locate them with the links you provided but they don't come up through PCPartPicker and even the individual product pages at Microcenter don't seem to mention them.
Noted. However, since I'm not planning to OC am I kissing out on anything by going with a 4670K that, other than OC capability, lacks some of the features of the vanilla 4670? I'm not planning on doing any VM stuff so is that all moot?
Thanks, Cerb. I neglected to mention, I do have access to a local Microcenter. Also, regarding the power supply, I have 2-3 HDDs that I'll be reusing from my current rig. Does that affect your recommendation at all?

CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 Plus 76.8 CFM Sleeve Bearing CPU Cooler ($19.99 @ Newegg)

I don't plan on OCing and will use my PC for general office/internet purpose as well as occasional engineering applications and data analysis like MATLAB, Solidworks, etc. Am I better off with the non-K versions? What if the non-K is $20-$30 more expensive at the moment?
Thanks, mfenn. If, as I was considering, I separate the cost of the monitor from the build how would that affect your recommendations? Would your latest mid-range build post be a good place to start?
Additionally, if I decide to spend the extra funds for a 2560 27" screen, what would you...
I'm looking to upgrade my ~3.5 year old desktop and while I once once intimately in tune with the latest and greatest innovations in the PC world, I have sadly become completely out of touch in the last few years and I could use some guidance.
I'm currently running a Core i5-750 stock at 2.67...
Thanks for all the work you put into this thread.
I have a question about a new S-Corp that my wife started this year. I've read Pub 587 thoroughly and I am certain that we qualify for the deduction (regular and exclusive use, etc), but I'm unclear on the details. From what I understand...
