The Sims 2 Slowdown

I have the same issue, I think it's just that the Sims 2 engine doesn't handle this very well (scrolling while zoomed out). It doesn't really effect actual gameplay though, so I can live with it.

Anyone else looking forward to "Gods and Generals" ?

SimCity4 Hardware???

I've got a AMD 1700+ XP, 756 MB of RAM, and a GeForce 4400 ti and the game runs pretty well. Zooming in and out are definitely slow and scrolling isn't that smooth, but it's good enough. I've heard of people having problems with much higher hardware, I guess it depends on what you consider...

Latest Nvidia Drivers and XP

I would try rolling back your drivers to the older nVidia drivers.

approximately $400 to spend on something nice . . . suggestions?

LCD would be nice, PDA if you already have a good monitor, otherwise invest it in the stockmark... er, bonds.

Friend made a huge mistake!

If he's that stubborn, you'll have to show him the difference. If you've got a good system tell him to play BF1942 on your system and then play on his system and show him the difference.

Athlon XP 1700+ rig keeps on restarting

I take my comment about the PSU back. It definitely could be bad PSU, but 350 watts should be enough juice for that setup, I've got an Enermax 350 and more peripherals then that setup.

A 350W Enermax should be good enough for that rig, have you tried testing the system with a different stick of memory? BTW, try it without the VIA 4-in-1 drivers, I've had less problems with the Microsoft default drivers.

I believe the 8265 (unlike the 8260) has replaceable covers, and the default color is the charcoal grey. Of course the covers go for about $25 a pop. :disgust:
