Installed my 4850hd last night, huge problem

Probably, i am still new to overclocking but i believe i ran into a wall with 500w. Right now i am running at 3.2GHz and the card is at 690/1100. Seems like if i go above 3.2 i start to experience random crashes.

Installed my 4850hd last night, huge problem

I am running a 500w OCZ like that one on a e7200 and 4850. Runs pretty stable with a little bit of room to overclock.

ATI 4850 TEMPERATURE discussion

Got my parts in last night and assembled everything. With an 80mm exhaust on the side of the case i was getting 71C idle and 80+ Load. Installed a Zalman VF-1000 and overclocked to 690/1100. Idle the card is at 38C and jumps to 50C under load. I am on the fence about using radeon bios editor...

I think GDDR5 is going to give the 4870 an edge overclocking or not. However with some RivaTuner support i am crossing my fingers the 4850 will start OC'ing much better.

Great, i didnt think they would be available with rebates so early. I am still pretty amazed with what can be had for 700 bucks these days.

I think its finally settled. With the GTS and overclocking i should be able to get close to 40fps on high. I built my dad a pretty standard E8400 4gig 800GTS system and it runs around there without any tweaking.

Changed out the ram for 4gigs of DDR 800. Storage is not much of an issue since i keep most of my media on an external drive. Thanks for the suggestion, memory was the only piece i was really undecided on besides the PSU.
