The answer to your question is no. DIMMs and SIMMS run at different voltages. Even if the board would allow it, the dimms would be run at 5volt instead of 3.3v. Overtime they would die out.
One other thing, did you try installing Win98 without the SBLive in the machine and then adding it after you install the VIA 4in1? Just a thought, maybe getting past the installation process and then doing the 4in1 might get you past your problem.

Your problem is not a compatibility problem because I have the exact same motherboard and sound card. The difference is that I am running dual boot Win ME and Win 2000 both of which installed with no problems. My suggestion would be to see if you could use a copy of 2000 and see if it installs...
