Be carefuly, some cases can support Maxtor drives >137GB but not have true 48-bit support, read this: Link to understand why. Your best bet is to find out what chipset the case/enclosure is using and read the specs on it, only the newest chipsets support >137GB for all drives, there are alot...
Yes, regardless of how you partition in, to access the entire drive (anything > 137GB) you must have the necessary bits to support 48bit addressing, that means either motherboard/bios support or an add-on card.
Hubs dont make any decisions - they are dumb - they simply broadcast out traffic received to all other ports (except the one that the traffic came in on). Switches are smarter - they do forward based on mac address. If you meant to say that switches are slower than hubs in low traffic...
AFAIK
Cat5 and Cat5e are both 100mhz
Cat6 (which is not a ratified standard) is spec'd to 250mhz
There are people offering enhanced version of Cat 5e tested to 350mhz but thats not the std
All switches I know of will run gigabit ethernet over regular cat5e just fine.
YMMV
My advice: dont take advice from people that play lawyers on the net. As another poster stated - if you want to be excluded from the class-action group you must notify them in writing, by certified mail, by Aug 22. More to the point - HP clearly does not admit guilt as part of the settlement...

<< A hub has shared bandwith; this means that if you have a 10-baseT, your actual speed is going to be 10 mb / number of ports. On the other hand, a switch has separate bandwith for each port, and thus is extremely fast compared to most any kind of hub. >>
